Texas AFT Round-Up: News on free school supplies, hurricane relief, TRS retiree health care changes

AFT joined First Book and the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation Wednesday to launch the Essentials for Kids Fund, a national initiative that will provide books, educational resources and basic-needs items for educators and their students in districts where the public schools are severely underfunded. As part of the launch, Essentials for Kids will deliver brand-new books and basic necessities, in coordination with first responders, educators and volunteers, to areas devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
