Texas AFT members will take part in a “National Day of Action” Thursday, January 19, as part of a nationwide series of events sponsored by the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools . Activists across the nation will stand together to:
- Demand that our schools and campuses be safe places free from the threat of racism and bullying.
- Protect against the government taking our public schools away from our neighborhoods via privatization schemes.
- Call on policymakers to invest in our students and our public schools.

The San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel, students, parents and community members will rally to show support for our students and public education by putting their “Arms Around Our School” at Rogers Elementary School.

Socorro (El Paso)
Socorro AFT members, parents and community supporters will join State Rep. Mary Gonzalez and State Board of Education Member Georgina Perez at a rally to show support for public education by putting their “Arms Around Our School” at Hueco Elementary in Socorro ISD.

Corpus Christi AFT members, parents and community partners will rally at Kennedy Elementary in West Oso ISD to show support for public education and advocate a community schools initiative in West OSO and Corpus Christi ISDs.

Join the Houston Federation of Teachers, community leaders, labor leaders, educators and elected officials for a presentation and tour of the community school system at Kashmere High School in Houston ISD. Facilitated and coordinated by ProUnitas Inc., this model connects students and their families to service providers right at the school to assist students facing poverty and instability, so that they can get the social, emotional and economic support they need. Tour participants will hear from Adeeb Barqawi, President/CEO of ProUnitas, Houston Federation of Teachers President Zeph Capo, a student leader, a service provider operating in the school and a teacher, who will talk about how the model works for students.

Alliance AFT, the Our Community/Our Schools coalition, school/city officials and dozens of teachers, parents, students and community members will hold a ceremony standing in solidarity and showing support for immigrant students in Dallas ISD schools. Ceremony attendees will pledge to protect immigrant students.

On inauguration day, Education Austin members (Austin ISD) will march in the One Resistance Rally for public education, civil rights, immigrants’ rights, reproductive rights, our environment, good jobs, and justice and safety in all of our communities.
