A special election yesterday will send Republican Fred Rangel and Democrat Ray Lopez to a runoff (date yet to be announced) for Texas House District 125, which covers west and northwest San Antonio. However, another Democrat—Coda Rayo-Garza—has not conceded yet, since she was only 22 votes behind Lopez for a runoff spot. The seat was up for grabs after former Rep. Justin Rodriguez resigned to take a position on the Bexar County Commissioners Court.
Yesterday, the governor set a March 5 special election runoff for House District 145, which covers central and southeast Houston. The runoff between Democrats Christina Morales and Melissa Noriega will fill the seat held by former state Rep. Carol Alvarado, who won a special election for the state Senate in December.
