Texas Parent Group Comes Out Against Greg Abbott

Texas Parent PAC, a bipartisan political action committee of parents who support high-quality public education, is urging Texans to vote against incumbent Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. This is the first time the organization has ever taken a stance on the governor’s race.

“Abbott is failing our kids and neighborhood public schools,” said Dinah Miller, Texas Parent PAC co-chair at the launch of the PAC’s campaign against Abbott. “Texas Parent PAC calls on Texas citizens to cast a vote for another candidate or leave the governor’s race blank on their ballots.”

In its announcement, Texas Parent PAC specifically cited several reasons for its endorsement against Abbott, including:

  • Abbott’s support for private school vouchers,
  • his disrespect for Texas educators,
  • his inaction in the wake of multiple school shootings, and
  • his inability to properly address the chronic underfunding of our state’s public schools.

Texas Parent PAC was originally founded in 2005 by a group of parents frustrated with the Texas Legislature’s lack of support for public education. The organization has a track record of success in electing pro-public education candidates to the state Legislature. Since the group’s inception, Texas Parent PAC has helped elect 85 members to the Legislature, 64 of whom are still serving. The group has supported many Republican and Democrat candidates throughout its 17 year existence.
