Alliance/AFT has received calls from members regarding an unemployment claim filed for them by someone else. When verifying with the district, it shows our member is an active employee and the district informs the unemployment vendor that this is a fraudulent claim. The district will notify the State of Texas who will then begins an investigation.
Alliance/AFT members are recommended to do the following:
1. Report the incident to https://identitytheft.gov/ which is managed by the Federal Trade Commission.
2. Visit https://www.twc.texas.gov/reporting-fraud for reporting options
3. It is also recommended that a police report be filed (if allowed by the local Police Department).
4. Check your credit reports. We have attached the Identity Theft Document which has contact information on the 3 Credit Bureaus.
