Support educators on strike in Los Angeles!

Texas AFT President Louis Malfaro (left), and Education Austin President Ken Zarifis don red and tweet a show of support for striking teachers in Los Angeles.

AFT’s union in Los Angeles, the United Teachers Los Angeles–some 32,000 school employees in the nation’s second largest district–went on strike today, and we’re encouraging all our members to offer a show of support for them.

We’re all in this together, since UTLA members are fighting for the same issues we advocate here in Texas–more school funding, smaller classes sizes, higher pay for educators, more school nurses and counselors, and a stop to charter school expansion taking resources from local schools.

You can post your support of UTLA to Facebook and Twitter and use the hashtags:  #WeAreLA  #UTLAstrong  #Red4Ed. The Los Angeles times reported on early action today as teachers marched through rain to rallies and picket lines.
