What do we do when public education is under attack? Stand up and fight back.
Our union is the strongest voice for public school employees in Texas. We don’t just talk the talk. We walk the walk, advocating for your best interests at the state, local, and national levels.
The Legislature and our state leaders have shown their true colors, passing a private school voucher that will endanger our schools’ funding, continuing baseless attacks on our educators and classrooms, and all but ignoring the teachers, paras, and support staff struggling to make ends meet.

We’re ALL IN for Texas teachers
Although incredibly rewarding, teaching is a profession that’s also filled with complexities that can be difficult to navigate, especially for those just starting out. From managing a classroom effectively to balancing personal well-being, the path can often feel overwhelming.
That’s where joining your colleagues in your union comes in. We’re here to help one another with the resources we need to flourish.
We’re ALL IN for support staff & paraprofessionals
School support personnel — from nurses to cafeteria workers to bus drivers — make our public schools run. Too often, they’re not treated like the valuable, vital employees they are.
Texas AFT welcomes all non-administrative staff in our public schools to join our union. And we fight for them, too.
We’re ALL IN for higher education faculty & staff
Texas AFT advocates for thriving schools for our students, from pre-K all the way through post-doc. We represent faculty and staff from colleges and universities across Texas and are proud to have been the first to merge state affiliations with AFT and the American Association of University Professors in 2024.
