Texas AFT, Texas AFL-CIO unveil slate of State Board of Education endorsements
Austin, Texas – Texas AFT and the Texas AFL-CIO have endorsed the following candidates for the State Board of Education:
Thomas Ray Garcia, District 2
Michelle Palmer, District 6
Tiffany Perkinz, District 7
Dana Van De Walker, District 8
Ericka Ledferd, District 9
Amy Taylor, District 14
Texas AFT and the Texas AFL-CIO have previously endorsed Allison Bush and incumbent Tiffany Clark for Districts 5 and 13, respectively.
These candidates exemplify and demonstrate their commitment to public education and labor through their campaigns and actions. In an era of profiteering and increasing nonsecular intrusion by the state into curriculums, these candidates are the best choices for voters that care about stemming the tide of privatization and ensuring our students are learning without the fear of religious indoctrination.
“Texans must step up to change the direction of this board,” said Texas AFT President Zeph Capo. “I know a state board with these thoughtful and principled members will put students first ahead of special interests.”
“Our labor endorsements are more meaningful and powerful than ever. As we work to make sure our public schools are fully funded, we need leaders who know how to fight,” said Texas AFL-CIO President Leonard Aguilar. “These candidates have proven to us that they have the backs of working people and our kids, and the Texas labor movement will have their backs in November.”
