Week two of early voting: last call

It has never cost more in Texas to fuel your truck, stock your fridge, power your home, or go to the doctor. Our state leaders have inflicted financial hardship and cruelty upon Texans through their loyalty to tech giants, corporations, and other special interests. This midterm election, we will turn our great state around by electing leaders who will put an end to this corruption and greed. We will help elect leaders like Gina Hinojosa for governor and James Talarico for U.S. Senate, who will stop our state from going down this dark, dangerous path. Texans are hurting, and projected election data shows it.

The sound of brave Texans marching to the polls can be heard across the state. With heated races for U.S. Senate and governor, more than 862,000 people in Harris County had voted before polls opened on Thursday morning. Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth predicts that 1 million voters will have cast a ballot in Harris County by the time early voting ends on Friday. However, we know voter turnout is not an indicator of which candidate will win because there is no way to know how voters are casting their ballots. So we remain driven and will do everything in our power to remind people to vote for our endorsed candidates:

  • Gina Hinojosa for Governor

  • James Talarico for U.S. Senate

  • Vikki Goodwin for Lt. Governor

  • Nathan Johnson for Attorney General

  • Sarah Eckhardt for Comptroller

  • And many more you can find here.

As of Friday morning, 6,282,318 Texans have cast their votes. Voters with only a Republican primary history lead voters with only a Democratic primary history, 31.4% to 30.4%. In comparison, during the 2024 election, voters with only a Republican primary history led voters with only a Democratic primary history by about 7 points. The biggest bloc of the electorate, at 35.4%, has not voted in a Democratic or Republican primary in the past six years, suggesting that Independents are motivated to vote.

We have the privilege of protecting our public schools, civil rights, and voting rights every time we cast a ballot. Early voting ends today, Friday, October 30, at 7:00 P.M., and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. We have the opportunity to do meaningful work over the weekend to remind our neighbors to vote. You can find your nearest polling center here, as well as our full list of endorsements. If you have the time, we ask that you join us this weekend to attend any of the following virtual events to help get out the vote:

Texans cannot afford six years of the most corrupt politician in the U.S. Senate or four more years of our incumbent governor. Our state leaders passed the private school voucher and siphoned $1 billion away from public education. Now the same leaders are looking to double the voucher scam this upcoming legislative session, which will shutter even more public schools. They are attacking our students, our staff, and our communities.

The world is watching Texas right now to see what statement we will send this midterm election. When we look back on election night, we hope to be able to say that we successfully voted for change.
