TEA Finalizes its Guidelines for Teacher Evaluations Based on Student Test Scores

In the wake of the lawsuit filed by Houston teachers against evaluations based on student test scores, Commissioner of Education Michael Williams was on deadline today to submit guidelines for a new teacher evaluation model to the U.S. Department of Education. The guidelines are part of a waiver filed by the Texas Education Agency for an exemption from No Child Left Behind Act federal mandates.

TEA did not release the guidelines today, but initial reports reveal that it continues down the path of relying on the flawed use of student test scores to determine teacher effectiveness.
