Gov. Abbott said Texas schools will remain closed through at least May 4. The Governor also said he is extending the state’s social distancing mandate through the end of April. Despite mounting pressure, Abbott declined to impose a statewide shelter-in-place or stay-at-home order because, he said, taken literally, that would mean people could not leave their homes under any circumstances. He issued a list of essential services that can carry on and essential activities that are permissible. The new order goes into effect April 2 at midnight.
