This Valentine’s Day, will you vote for these union-backed candidates? <3

This Valentine’s Day, we are celebrating a deep love for our state. Texas will be a better place when we elect Rep. Gina Hinojosa, Montserrat Garibay, and Adrian Reyna into the respective offices they are running for. Beyond just their campaign promises, each of these candidates has a long history of fighting for their neighbors, public schools, and working families that keep Texas running.

Voting is in the air, and we encourage you to vote early to show love for your community. Early voting across Texas begins February 17 and runs until February 27. Election Day is March 3.  Voting is an act of love. Will you vote for our union-backed candidates? Read our full list of endorsements here.

Gina Hinojosa for Governor

We are all-in for Representative Gina Hinojosa for Texas Governor. Gina is a fierce advocate for working Texans, educators, and our public schools. She has a long history of fighting back against corporate interests in the legislature. Now, Gina is taking that fight directly to the billionaires by running for Governor against the billionaire-backed Governor Abbott. Her opponent has spent his time in office putting the interest of his big money cronies ahead of working Texans. Gina will serve Texans with the dignity, fearlessness, and empathy we deserve. Texas AFT stands alongside Gina because she has always fought alongside us.

Montserrat Garibay for House District 49

Education changed everything for Montserrat Garibay. It was at Austin Community College where she met her husband, Gilbert. And it was through education that she found not only her lifelong Valentine but a second love––public education. She would go on to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin and begin her career in Austin ISD as a bilingual educator, eventually becoming a union leader with Education Austin. Her journey, which included a stint as a senior official in the U.S. Department of Education under Biden has prepared her to represent House District 49. Montserrat would not be here if it were not for her love of public education and her love of her community, which has empowered her since day one. Texas AFT is proud to endorse Montserrat, a life-long educator and dedicated union leader.

Adrian Reyna for House District 125

This Valentine’s Day, Adrian Reyna is the perfect match for House District 125. For 15 years, Adrian has taught U.S. history in San Antonio ISD and has fought to protect jobs, raise wages, and give working families the voice they deserve. His heart belongs to public education, but his love isn’t just in the classroom. He is a champion for his local union, where he has given his all to improve public education for his students. He grew up in House District 125 and chooses to stay in the community that raised him and where he now raises his family. He is committed to the district and is ready to sweep us off our feet and fight for our values at the Capitol.

Early Voting

There is no better Valentine than elected officials that love their communities. These union-backed candidates are tired of seeing hard-working Texans being taken advantage of and they are ready to fight back against the special interests that control the Capitol. Early voting begins February 17 and ends February 27. The deadline to apply for mail-in ballots is February 20 and Election Day is Tuesday, March 3.
