AFT supports Arizona teachers

The Arizona teachers’ walkout continues today, extending the protest into its fourth day. Yesterday, AFT President Randi Weingarten joined more than 10,000 teachers and supporters in the state capital and described their struggle on MSNBC, pointing out that while the governor has agreed to raise teacher salaries, he may deplete school improvement funding to do it.
“We need funding for textbooks, for curriculum, for schools that are broken down,” said Weingarten. Teachers have been paying for everything from paper and pencils to chairs for their classrooms, as fifth-grade teacher Zoe Hyde explains in the video.
