The Texas Community Schools Coalition, Austin Voices for Education and Youth, and Save Texas Schools (with support from Austin ISD and Texas AFT) will sponsor our third annual statewide Community Schools Summit on June 6-8 in Austin at Lanier High School.
Whether you are new to community schools or already have an effort underway, the summit will provide helpful information. Here’s an outline of the agenda for the three days:
Day 1: Summit Kickoff Forum: What’s the big picture on community schools in Texas and where is this movement happening? How do we know know community schools work? Are they sustainable? We will hear stories about on-the-ground successes and the fight for community schools in the Legislature and our districts.
Day 2 and 3: Come for a day and a half of nuts and bolts learning, including lots of time to work with your team on community schools planning. Last year we had 20 teams from around the state sharing ideas and getting ready for the next school year. We’ll start and finish with fun activities based around the theme “Community Schools: A Recipe for Success!” Childcare and Spanish translation are available for teams that want to bring parents and community members.
June 6 only is free, with a $35 registration fee for June 7-8. It is possible that teachers will be able to count some of the sessions for professional development. Depending on your district, stipends may also be available.
