Testing Should Not Eclipse Teaching—Support National AFT Petition to End Testing Fixation

We hope you had a great Fourth of July holiday and that you’re enjoying a well-earned summer vacation after the hard work of the 2011-2012 school year. We have a modest request to make of you now to do something to help improve conditions for working and learning in our schools for years to come.

Please read the national American Federation of Teachers resolution on ending the testing fixation in our schools:  https://www.aft.org/issues/standards/student-assess/testing.cfm. The AFT Executive Council will be recommending this resolution for approval at the biennial national AFT convention in a few weeks.

Then check out the online petition in support of this resolution at http://action.aft.org/c/44/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=

Please sign on in support of this online petition. Then share it with your family, friends, neighbors and anyone else in your circles of influence. This petition isn’t just for AFT members. It’s for anyone who agrees that testing should not eclipse teaching in our classrooms.

Please join your fellow AFT members and supporters nationwide in standing up for meaningful teaching and learning in our schools!
