Some 33,000 members of United Teachers Los Angeles–our AFT union for Los Angeles public schools–joined with thousands of parents and students today to march on picket lines and attend rallies in their strike against the district. Now in a fourth day of striking, union leaders went back to the table with school officials to try and reach a settlement.
L.A. school employees are asking for more funding for schools, smaller class sizes, more counselors and nurses, higher pay, and an end to rapid expansion of charter schools that defund public schools–the same issues we face here in Texas.
AFT has been documenting the strike, including a great video showing parent and student support for their educators.
And be sure to check here and join us for our March on the Capitol to fight for public education in Texas on March 11.
