Voucher Bill on Senate Action List for Wednesday, Along With “Parent Trigger” for Privatization

There is still time for you to put in a word with your state senator against private-school vouchers draining taxpayer funds from underfunded public schools. SB 4 by Sen. Larry Taylor (R-Friendswood), a so-called “tax credit” voucher, could be up for a vote on the Senate floor Wednesday afternoon. Send your letter in opposition to this and all voucher schemes now.

Also up for a possible vote in the Senate Wednesday is another bad bill, SB 14 by the same Sen. Taylor, authorizing a “parent trigger” petition option to allow private operation of public schools rated low-performing for two years.  Experience in California shows that the petition process can easily be exploited by outside interests to engineer the takeover of a neighborhood school.
