The deadline is approaching (January 31) for the Union Plus scholarship program available to union members and their families. And yes, as an AFT member you and your family are eligible.
And here’s a reminder that applications for the Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship Program carry a postmark (or email) deadline of the same day, Friday, January 31. If you know of a high school senior whose parent is a member of a union affiliated with both the Texas AFL-CIO (that includes Texas AFT members) and a Central Labor Council or ALF (that includes many local unions), encourage them to apply. The application and more information about the program, which offers one-time $1,500 grants, are here.
Can’t make those deadlines? Then you have until April 14 to apply for the AFT Robert G. Porter Scholars Program. This program offers four 4-year, $8,000 post-secondary scholarships to students who are dependents of AFT members, as well as 10 one-time $1,000 grants to AFT members. Grants can be used for continuing education and also for implementing programs or introducing tools in the classroom, workplace and/or community.
