Any member in good standing may nominate, be nominated, and may vote at the membership meeting. However, to be eligible to run for or to hold office, the following qualifications must be met: For the office of president and secretary-treasurer, the candidate(s) must have been a member of Alliance/AFT, in good standing, for a minimum of three years. For any of the offices of vice president, the candidate must have been a member of Alliance/AFT, in good standing, for a minimum of two years. For any of the other positions on the Alliance/AFT Executive Board, the candidate must have been a member of Alliance/AFT, in good standing, for a minimum of one year.
A candidate does not have to be present at nominations in order to be nominated.
After the close of nominations, if only one candidate has been nominated for any office, that candidate may be declared elected if a majority of the Alliance/AFT Membership in attendance at the nominations meeting declares by acclamation that the candidate is a winner.
