Teachers and school employees will carry the message: “We will not be silenced!”
What: Educators from around the state will spend the first day of spring break working to ensure that legislators stand up for public education and show respect for teachers and school employees. Buses carrying the educators will arrive in the early morning to allow participants to meet with lawmakers, followed by a noon rally on the Capitol steps.
Educators will carry the message that they will not stand for privatization of our schools through vouchers, nor will they buckle under threats targeting their professional organizations.
When: Monday, March 13, 2017
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. – Teachers and school employees visit with legislators
Noon – Rally on the South Steps with guest speakers
Where: State Capitol, South Steps, Austin, Texas
Who: Rally speakers include: legislators, school employees and union leaders, Allen Weeks (Save Texas Schools and Austin Voices for Education and Youth), Charles Foster Johnson (Pastors for Texas Children) and John Ogletree (Cypress-Fairbanks school board member).
